Now that this quilt has gone to it’s new home, I can finally share what is possibly my proudest sewing accomplishment to date. One of my closest friends absolutely loves dresden and as she was flying over to Adelaide from Perth for her birthday, I knew that I had to make something extra special for her. I almost couldn’t give this away but knowing who it was going to and knowing it would be loved I was able to let it go…..just.

So those who know me well know that I love sewing, my Silhouette Cameo and sparkly things. When I first saw Lori Whitlock’s mini canvas set in the Silhouette store I was a little in love. My original plan was to add a quote for my sewing room. Then I saw some black card and thought it HAD to have glitter added to it. My final thought was to the new sewing machine cut file that I had yet to use.

Pin cushions

I love sewing and I love bags, so when I saw Nikki’s handbag pincushion I knew I had to have the pattern! I made one and I was absolutely hooked. This is such a quick and easy pattern to follow and a fantastic scrap buster. So I decided I had to make one each for my four best friends. (Yes they all sew – probably why we are such good friends as we understand the obsession!) I can finally share the photo here as it has taken awhile for these to arrive in their new homes.

I am yet to make one for myself – should probably do that soon. And work out who else I can make these for while I’m at it.

Hello Kitty Party

I am finding it really hard to believe that my baby is turning 5 this week. How did that happen? With her birthday falling right before Easter this year we decided to have her party a week early. Of course she wanted a “Hello Kitty 5 Party” so that’s what she got. My Silhouette Cameo got a workout in the lead up to this one. It helped me make lots of cut outs for the kids to decorate (Hello Kitty faces, paper dolls, Potty dolls, door hangers), the party bags, the birthday girl’s tee and even the cake!

Unfortunately I didn’t get a photo of the craft table before the kids attacked it but it certainly got a workout during the day!

Applique – the Silhouette Cameo way

It took me awhile to actually try cutting fabric on the Silhouette Cameo and now I’m wondering why I waited. It is just so precise and quick. Not to mention the fact that it saves my hands. Even the tiny little fiddly pieces are no challenge for this cutter.

I made this mini canvas using leftover scraps from another project. I love the 3D effect it has from all the layers of fabric. Next time I will stick to my original plan and use a rhinestone for the eye rather than the pen which bled a little. This was incredibly quick to make and I think I see a few more of these in my future. Oh and I should probably mention that the bird design is one of Patty’s.

This hedgehog was cut on the Silhouette Cameo and then stitched on to secure it. I think Miss 4 will love it when she finally gets to see it.

Bear Bag

I purchased a gorgeous kit about 18 months ago to make a bag for my daughter. It has been sitting in the cupboard for all that time, occasionally being pulled out so I could look at it for awhile but it always got put away again. Well my girl is growing up fast so I had to make it soon before she’s too big for it. Gypsy Jean’s UFO Club was another great incentive for me to get this done. In some ways I’m glad I waited to do it as I have a much better understanding of how to construct a bag. Not sure I could have done this 18 months ago even though the bag itself isn’t that complicated. So here it is.

Baby gift

We welcomed yet another baby in to our family this week. Of course for me that means lots of crafting for the new addition.

First there was the card. I absolutely fell in love with the bib card when I first saw it. I knew I had to make one. What I love about this card – not only is it simple but I was able to use both the cut and sketch features on the Silhouette to make it.

Now any excuse to make a quilt. Oh and toys. Every baby needs toys right? (Ok well they really don’t but I couldn’t resist!)

Gift

You can see part of the quilt, the taggie with applique, the penguin rattle block, star softie and the “there’s a nap for that” onsie. I thought the parents might appreciate the geekiness of that one – and they did. The onsie was purchased from Target and I used vinyl to add the words. Yet another awesome use of the Silhouette Cameo.

Then I realised that I needed something to put everything in. After a quick think I realised I had some large paper bags here that I usually use for markets. Hmmmm the Silhouette Cameo could help me do something special with that. And so I went on a hunt and found the perfect set from SVG Cuts. I had already chosen paper with rocking horses on it for his name so I knew the picture on the bottom of the bag had to be a rocking horse. Here is the end result and I will definitely be using this idea over and over again!

Thankfully Mum and Dad loved the gifts and I got lots of snuggles with my new nephew. Everyone wins!

Miss Z has a birthday party for one of her Kindy friends this weekend and I thought a handmade card would be the perfect addition to the handmade gift. But rather than decorate it myself, I got Z to do all the creative work. I used Lori Whitlock’s purse card design from the Silhouette store to cut the plain white card. I then gave it to Miss Z to do what she wished with it. I hope the birthday girl loves it as much as I do.

I’m not entirely sure how or why my obsession with hedgehogs started but it did. I now have glasses, bags, jewellery and toys in my ever growing collection.
